i2r Packaging Solutions Launches New Generic Smooth Wall Container Design

Telford based, i2r Packaging Solutions has launched a new generic smooth wall container design for the food industry.

i2r, standing for innovation to reality, will be producing the new, design registered, aluminium food trays from October for both food manufacturers and retailers across the UK.

The new robust tray, light weight in comparison with current industry standard designs, provides a significant packaging weight reduction. The tray uses thinner gauge aluminium and has cut away corners, providing the opportunity for packers to use a smaller outer sleeve.

Every tray comes with a clear recycling logo for greater consumer awareness.

Commenting on the new design, commercial development director, Jon West, said;

“Our new fresh, modern design is being applied to a wide range of ‘ready to cook’ food products.

“Working in partnership with food manufacturers and retailers, we were aware that we needed to maintain a ‘must fit’ principal to the top tray dimensions so that no process, transit or on shelf changes are required. We’ve managed to retain this while altering the sides and corners of the tray, providing an innovative, beneficial and attractive shape.

“In addition, the cut away corners provide added strength while reducing the shelf damage in store. This extra strength also increases consumer safety when handling hot products from the oven or grill.

“With all of these design and environmental benefits, our existing customer base has expressed their delight at the choice of packaging we are providing.”

Providing whole bird and crown ranges as well as traditional aluminium smooth wall shapes, i2r will be supplying key UK food producers from September. Based in the Midlands and with most UK food packers within a four hour drive of their Telford site, i2r is able to respond quickly to its customers’ demands.
