i2r Packaging Solutions reinforces its environmental credentials

Providing aluminium foil trays for the food industry, i2r Packaging Solutions has lead the market place with its environmental initiatives, including the distribution of its products, across the UK using recycled biofuel.

Working with Simmonds Transport, Telford based i2r Packaging Solutions is distributing all its smooth wall aluminium foil trays by vehicles using 100% biodiesel fuel.

As Peter Reay, chief executive officer for i2r Packaging Solutions said;
“Unlike other ‘green fuels’ the biodiesel used by Simmonds is produced from 100% used cooking oils, therefore it is not only more environmental than none renewable sources of energy but by being recycled we are also addressing the current issues of rising global food prices and deforestation.

“As well as having significant environmental benefits and reduced emissions, at i2r we were impressed by the additional benefits. Biofuel exhaust is not offensive, does not cause eye irritation and the vehicles will not emit black fumes or particles.

“As a provider of packaging, we have worked hard to reduce the amount of material we use and have designed our products carefully so that they use less aluminium and are 100% recyclable. Making sure that our products are distributed in an environmentally friendly way helps to reinforce our ethos.”
