• Packaging innovator unveils new whole bird tray range

Packing innovator, i2r Packaging Solutions has developed a unique range of aluminium foil whole bird trays for manufacturers and retailers of chickens and game birds.

The trays, produced in Telford, have been specifically designed to not only fit a variety of bird weights but have also been designed for optimum production, storage, distribution and cooking.

Peter Reay, chief executive officer of i2r Packaging Solutions said;

“Our design not only provides our customers with a robust tray that can go from the supermarket shelf to the oven but also enables people to significantly reduce the amount of packaging used too.

“The bespoke design is as much as 20% lighter and uses less aluminium than other comparative industry products. Over a year this can provide significant packaging weight reduction, impacting on transport costs as well as the amount of raw material used.

“The design ensures that while the aluminium tray is light weight it maintains its strength, significantly reducing product damage. In addition, we have looked at the consumer needs and provide details, such as finger holds to improve the handling of the tray as it goes in and out of a hot oven.”

The design of these whole bird trays has been intellectually protected and they are currently available in three standard sizes of 959cc, 1,118cc and 1,619cc. These sizes are suitable for a wide range of bird weights from less than 1kg to over 2.3kg.
